Legacy Society

“Just as they planted trees for me, I am planting trees for my children and grandchildren so they will be able to eat the fruit of these trees”

-Honi, the circle maker

Together, we can secure a Jewish future! Camp Newman’s mission is to enable young Jews to celebrate their best selves, to experience the joy of our culture and traditions, to strengthen their Jewish identity, and to forge lifelong mentors and friends. Through this sacred work and these empowered youth, we hope to build a lasting, vibrant Jewish culture.

The Legacy Society for Living Judaism was formed to secure the future of Camp Newman. By including Newman in your estate planning, you can play a part in securing the long-term success of Newman’s mission for generations to come.

Help us achieve our dream:

  • To provide “next generation” innovative programming, personnel and infrastructure to appeal to an evolving constituency, while maintaining camp’s great traditions, history, stories and memories.
  • To make camp and our year-long programs affordable for every child.

If you have any questions, do not hesitate to contact Tracey Klapow, Development Director, at 415-991-0359 or tklapow@urj.org.

How to Make a Legacy Gift

To make Camp Newman part of your estate plan, and ensure the long-term success of the camp, please complete a Letter of Intent. We recommend speaking with your financial advisor to discuss what is optimal based on your needs.

Many Ways to Leave a Lasting Legacy

Bequests. A bequest is one of the most common and simplest ways to leave a legacy gift to URJ Camp Newman. You can designate a specific amount, specific assets or designate a percentage of your estate or other assets (such as life insurance).

Estate Planning/The Legacy Society for Living Judaism. Secure the future of Camp Newman! By including camp in your estate planning, you’re safeguarding Camp Newman for the next generation, L’dor va’dor.

Charitable Remainder Trust. A tax-exempt irrevocable trust is designed to reduce your taxable income by first dispersing income to the beneficiaries of the trust for a specified period of time and then donating the remainder of the trust to the designated charity.

Charitable Lead Trust. This trust allows you to donate an asset’s income stream for a period of years to a charity instead of the remainder interest. The remainder interest can then pass to a private party under the direction of the grantor (i.e. grandchild, child, etc.).

Gifts of Life Insurance or Pension Benefits. If you have more life insurance than you need, you can donate your life insurance or name URJ Camp Newman as a beneficiary to your policy, entitling you to an income tax deduction.
